KYOTO -- The Imperial Household Agency opened to the press the dismantling work of the takamikura, the dais-style throne used by a new emperor when his accession is proclaimed, at the Kyoto Imperial Palace in Kamigyo Ward, Kyoto, on Monday.
The throne comprises about 1,500 components. The dismantling of the throne for transport has been under way since June. To double-check the procedures, workers carry out the process of dismantling and assembling it twice. After the third dismantlement, which will take place in September, the throne will be taken by land transport to Tokyo together with the michodai, or dais for the new empress.
According to the agency, the components will then undergo maintenance before being reassembled at the Imperial Palace in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo, from September next year. Sokuirei Seiden no Gi, the core enthronement ritual for the new emperor, is to be held on Oct. 22 next year.
