A three-year-old cerebral palsy sufferer’s dream of running with his sister may come true after he raised £80,000 for surgery.
Tommy Monument and twin sister Eva raised the money by covering a mile a day in October.
Eva was on foot and Tommy in his electric wheelchair.
Mirror readers donated significant sums and the operation is booked for April after a five-figure gift from strangers Stan and Sue Cannon, who live in Switzerland.
Stan said of Tommy: “He must be suffering and yet he was smiling all the time. In all honesty, he melted our hearts.”
Tommy, of Wroxham, Norfolk, was not eligible for a selective dorsal rhizotomy on the NHS.
But experts told his parents the op should almost completely reduce Tommy’s pain.
The operation at the Portland Hospital in London may let him walk unaided.
Retail worker Alex said she and husband Sam, 41, a fire protection worker, have been preparing Tommy.
She said raising the £80,000 was such “a relief” and added: “We’ve told him the ‘special doctor’ is going to help him learn to walk.”
