Centrepoint calls for Secret Santa to be Selfless Santa this year

With working from the home becoming the new normal for many of us, familiar events such as team lunches, the annual Christmas party and of course the well-known Secret Santa tradition will be slightly different this year.

New research by Centrepoint reveals that over a third (35%) of people do not usually want the Secret Santa gift they receive, and almost 50% would rather a charity donation in their name than a Secret Santa gift.

So this year, while the traditional Secret Santa will be more challenging than ever to co-ordinate, leading youth homeless charity Centrepoint is calling on businesses and organisations across the country to turn the usual Secret Santa into ‘Selfless Santa’.

Recent figures show that 23,000 young people will face homelessness this Christmas, so Centrepoint is urging Secret Santa buyers to choose a Centrepoint virtual gift instead, which goes to a homeless young person. These virtual ‘gifts’, which most of us take for granted, help keep vulnerable young people safe and well this Christmas.

For the same price as many would spend on a Secret Santa gift, you could gift a homeless young person with More than a Christmas dinner (£10). Christmas dinner is a time when family and friends come together to share a meal and celebrate. But for young people who are unable to be with family, it can be an incredibly lonely time. By providing a Christmas dinner, you’ll be giving a homeless young person a comforting, hot meal to enjoy over the Christmas period in a safe environment.
