Centre gave Rs 3,828 crore to Punjab in 4 years

CHANDIGARH: The central government has released over Rs 3,828 crore to the Punjab government under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) between 2018-19 and 2021-22. The state government received Rs 598 crore in 2018-19, Rs 776 crore in 2019-20, Rs 1,287 crore in 2020-21 and Rs 1,167 crore in 2021-22 under MGNREGS, which is a demand driven wage employment programme. The information was provided in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday by Union minister of state in rural development department Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti.

It was said that 2.04 crore man days were generated in Punjab under this scheme in 2018-19, 2.35 crore in 2019-20 and 3.76 crore in 2020-21. Also, 6.75 lakh families found work in the state under this scheme in 2018-19, 7.53 lakh in 2019-20 and 9.54 lakh in 2020-21.
