Centre discriminating against Andhra Pradesh, says YSRC parliamentary party leader V Vijaysai Reddy

AMARAVATI: YSRC parliamentary party leader V Vijaysai Reddy has alleged that the Centre is discriminating against AP. He alleged that the Centre has failed to fulfil promises made in the AP State Reorganisation Act, 2014 even seven years after the state bifurcation.

He said party MPs will demand that the Centre stop privatisation of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) during the Parliament Monsoon session.

Speaking to the media after attending the all-party meeting convened by the Centre in New Delhi on Sunday, the YSRC MP said they will also insist for grant of special category status to the state. He alleged that the Centre had deliberately put the release of the funds for implementation of the rehabilitation and resettlement for Polavaram project oustees on hold. He said that delay in completion of R&R works is leading to the submergence of low-lying colonies.

He said party MPs had raised the issues at the all-party meeting with a request to spare enough time for their members to raise the grievances of AP.

Response to crucial issues lukewarm, says Vijayasai

“We have demanded that the Centre should initiate measures to bring the Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) into profits without selling the precious assets to the private parties. We will demand the Centre to stop all the measures initiated for the sale of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (RINL-VSP).

Vijaysai Reddy said the Centre is adopting double-standards in resolving peoples’ grievances. He said the Centre’s response to their requests on handing over the probe into alleged Amaravati land scam, fibernet scam and burning of temple chariot incident to the CBI was poor. He said that they were not happy with the Centre’s lukewarm response to such crucial issues. He had also criticized the Centre for not handling the MP’s disqualification petition properly.

YSRCP floor leader in the Lok Sabha, Peddireddy Mithun Reddy, said that they have also demanded the Centre to take measures to shift the Polavaram Project Authority (PPA) office to Rajahmundry for better coordination with officials. He said they would demand for grant of environmental clearances to Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Project (RLIP) immediately. He said Centre should also release dues towards purchase of paddy to the state. He said that Telangana is yet to clear Rs 6,000 crore power purchase costs and Centre should take steps to ensure that the state releases the dues.
