The plan is to have complete remediation of 45 ULBS by December 2022.
The Ministry said the proposal of 280 cities for complete remediation has also been approved under ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’ and it has been resolved to achieve zero dumpsites within the mission period. Approximately, 16 crore MT of legacy waste has covered around 15,000 acres of prime land across the nation, the release added.
The remediation of legacy waste will facilitate the recovery of valuable land across the country and will also make the cities free of garbage mounds, providing a healthier future to the residents, the release added.
