HYDERABAD: Central universities in the city will be accepting the common university entrance test (CUET) scores for admissions into undergraduate courses (UG) from the ensuing academic year. The CUET application registration for candidates shall begin from Saturday.
Until last year, all central universities were holding independent entrance tests. Considering the inconvenience to students, the University Grants Commission (UGC) decided to adopt CUET for UG courses which will be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
“We have 16 UG integrated courses for which CUET scores will be considered. In 2021-22, we received 10,766 applications for all the courses. We are hoping that we would receive more applications this year,” said University of Hyderabad (UoH) spokesperson professor Kanchan Mallik said
The English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) has also decided to accept CUET score for not just UG but also post-graduate (PG) courses. EFLU receives more than 15,000 applications every year and offers eight UG courses and 15 PG courses.
“We have joined common university entrance test for both UG and PG courses. While the examination does not make much of a difference for the universities, it definitely gives greater flexibility to students as with one exam they can apply for multiple central universities,” said EFLU vice-chancellor professor E Suresh Kumar.
The Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), Hyderabad, is also participating in CUET.
“About five or six UG courses from Maulana Azad National Urdu University will be a part of CUET. We have forwarded the necessary syllabus for the exam to the UGC and all the guidelines are being followed by us,” said MANUU vice-chancellor professor Syed Ainul Hassan.
