Central team to assess Chandigarh health care system today

CHANDIGARH: Members of the parliamentary standing committee of the ministry of health and family welfare will visit the city on September 8 to evaluate the health care system. In addition to their visit to one of the health and wellness centres, the team shall visit PGI.

The team members, along with chairman Ram Gopal Yadav, are Indu Bala Goswami, Dr L Hanumanthaiah, Dr Sanghamitra Maurya, Arjunlal Meena, K Navaskani, Adoor Prakash, Hazi Fazlur Rehman, Dr Rajdeep Roy, Dr D N V Senthikumar S, Dr Mahesh Sharma, Dr Sujey Radhakrishna Vikhepatil and Dr Krishan Pal Singh Yadav.

The parliamentary committee has different agenda to discuss PGI, UT health department, Punjab, and Haryana. Sources inform that the committee’s agendas include how states are working on Covid vaccine, Ayushman Bharat, Covid related research and cancer care for poor etc.

Though this is not the first time that the team would be visiting states for the health evaluation, the visit during the pandemic is significant. “The team would visit us and ask about cancer related funds for the poor. They are keen to know about the welfare schemes for these patients here,” said PGI dean of research Prof A K Gupta.

Sources said after the visit to the health and wellness centre and PGI, there will be a meeting with the chief secretaries of Punjab and Haryana and the UT adviser.
