Central Motorway: Jesmond exit closed twice in one weekend after another crash

A car crash closed a stretch of Newcastle's Central Motorway for the second time in one weekend.

A grey BMW crashed into a barrier on the Jesmond exit of the infamous road on Sunday afternoon.

The collision occurred on almost exactly the same spot where, just over 24 hours earlier, a car flipped onto its roof.

Incredibly, nobody was seriously injured in either crash. Police diverted traffic as they shut down the Jesmond exit to clean up debris from the crashes.

Addressing Sunday's crash, a Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "Shortly before 1.30pm yesterday, police received a report of a collision on the Central Motorway on the Jesmond exit.

"It was reported that a grey BMW Z had collided with the barrier on the bend of the exit.

"No one was injured and the car was uplifted shortly after the incident."

On Saturday, fuel from the overturned car trickled onto the road after the crash, which occurred at around 3.15pm.
