Central Pattana Plc (CPN) recently launched its first overseas mall, Central i-City, in Selangor, Malaysia, bringing Thai-style shopping and decor to its southern neighbour.
"Central i-City is our first overseas project, underlining our position as a leading property developer. This is our first step in becoming a global player by expanding to the regional market," said Preecha Ekkunagul, president and chief executive of CPN.
"Central i-City will be the best lifestyle shopping centre, making possible the aspirational lifestyle of communities in Shah Alam and Klang, nearby catchment areas."
He said the mall was designed to represent "unique Thai DNA" and will serve to bring Thai culture to Malaysia.
CPN reported Malaysian visitors to the mall ranked second after Chinese, reflecting their confidence the mall can be a springboard to bring Thai products to the Malaysian market.
"The first month we gained excellent feedback from Malaysian customers, with arrivals exceeding our projection," Mr Preecha said. "The project is located in the high-potential area of Shah Alam and is easily accessible from both Klang and Kuala Lumpur, surrounded by major highways with direct access to the basement car park."
To celebrate the opening and the introduction Thai culture to Malaysia, Central i-City will host "Sawasdee Thailand" until May 5. CPN said customers can expect to experience Thai culture through Thai performances such as authentic Thai dance, music, boxing and food.
The Bangkok street life event will simulate Bangkok lifestyles with Thai street food, a marketplace and workshops.
