Central and Tokyo governments agree on more PCR testing at nighttime hotspots

Employees at nighttime businesses in Tokyo should be more extensively provisioned with PCR tests for the novel coronavirus, Economic Revitalization Minister Yasutoshi Nishimura and Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike confirmed during a meeting held at a Cabinet Office on Saturday.

The number of people infected in Tokyo has mainly been concentrated at nighttime entertainment businesses, such as host clubs.

After the meeting at a press conference, Nishimura said: "We will recommend that a wide range of similar bars and clubs be examined, including those whose employees have tested positive. It is important to prevent secondary infections [at facilities including nursing homes for the elderly and hospitals]."

"We shared that we need to be highly cautious and vigilant to the current situation," he said regarding the increasing number of patients.

"On the whole, many patients are young people and the positive rate is still low in Tokyo. We have secured enough beds for patients," he added.

He also indicated that the central government does not need to declare a state of emergency again at this time.
