Center Parcs issues update on closure of its holiday villages

Center Parcs has announced it is extending the closure of all its villages for another three weeks.

The Nottinghamshire-headquartered firm had shut down its centres between March 20 and April 16 because of coronavirus, but this will now continue until Thursday, May 14.

Customers who had been due to visit one of the company's five UK destinations - which includes Sherwood Forest - before this date will be contacted to go through their options.

This includes having a refund or selecting a new date in the future, with holidaymakers being offered an incentive to choose this option.

A statement said: "Breaks are on sale for arrivals up to December 2021. You can re-book for a new date in the future with no amendment fee and we’ll also offer you a £100 discount from your new break.

"Please note that if you select a lower-priced break we will still offer you the £100 discount and refund the difference. If the break you select is higher-priced, we will, again, apply the £100 discount but you would need to pay any outstanding difference."

Center Parcs' contact centre is currently closed so customers are asked not to contact the company. Rather, staff are working through holiday forms and will confirm changes of date or refunds through email.

The company has also advised that refunds are taking longer to process.

Meanwhile, customers whose holidays are scheduled to take place from May 15 are not currently affected by the closures.

A spokesperson added: "As it stands, we are closed until May 14. We will continue to closely monitor and follow government guidelines so please keep a close eye on our website for any updates. If anything changes for your break, we will contact you directly.

"We recognise that this is disappointing news and we would like to thank you for your patience and understanding in these exceptional circumstances."

Center Parcs opened its first village at Sherwood Forest in 1987 and now has a total of five parcs in the UK in Suffolk, Wiltshire, Cumbria and Bedfordshire. It also recently opened a new centre in the Republic of Ireland.
