NARA -- Donning special protective gear, a daughter was reunited with her centenarian father for Father's Day on Sunday at a special nursing care facility in Nara.

In-person visits have been suspended at the Heijoen home for the elderly since December due to the pandemic, with only online meetings allowed.

However, as "nothing compares to the joy of meeting in person," the facility decided for Father's Day to borrow protective suits developed by Taiyo Kogyo Corp., an Osaka City-based major tent manufacturer, for visitors wishing to meet with the residents.

It was the first time in six months the father, daughter and her husband were able to meet in person. They brought him a foot cushion as a gift for the special day.

"I thought I'd never be able to be together with them again while I'm still living. It's just like a dream," he said with a smile.
