Cenk Tosun suffers injury setback in training as Turkey boss issues update on Everton striker

Everton forward Cenk Tosun is unlikely to feature for Turkey in their upcoming EURO 2020 qualifiers after suffering a groin injury in training.

The striker has recently forced his way back into Marco Silva’s first team plans but national team manager Senol Gunes has confirmed he will be without Tosun's services for the upcoming games against Iceland and Andorra.

Gunes offered a brief update on the 28-year-old to Turkish TV channel TRT Spor.

As cited by aa.com, the coach explained: "Cenk Tosun is injured…It doesn't seem very serious, but most probably he won't be playing in [Turkey's] next two matches."

Gunes revealed he expects the Blues star, who suffered the injury passing the ball, to recover in a week's time.

Tosun, who joined Everton from Besiktas in 2017, has featured three times in the Premier League this season, with his only goal coming in a 1-1 draw with Tottenham.

Turkey currently sit top of Group H on goal difference ahead of world champions France.

A win or draw against Iceland on Thursday evening would see Tosun's side qualify automatically for next summer's competition.
