Cemetery wall destroyed and road closed after van crash

A cemetery wall has been left in rubble and a busy road has been shut after a van crash this evening.

The road was shut after a van crashed into West Derby Cemetery, leaving a wall destroyed in the process.

The crash happened around 5.50pm according to traffic monitor INRIX where one vehicle lost control and hit the wall.

Merseyside Police confirmed that they initially believed the incident was more serious than it was with the possibility of life-changing injuries.

Thankfully as police arrived it appeared that the driver had made a miraculous recovery and his family were already aware.

The road remains closed in both directions with INRIX saying: "Lower House Lane in both directions closed, slow traffic due to accident between A580 East Lancashire Road and Utting Avenue East."
