Celtics to rest starters in regular season finale vs. Wizards

Per an official injury report from the Boston Celtics, all of the Celtics starters — as well as forward Marcus Morris (who started 53 games for Boston this season — have been listed as out against the Washington Wizards on Tuesday. That means that the Celtics will be without Kyrie Irving, Marcus Smart, Jayson Tatum, Al Horford and Aron Baynes (who has started in Boston’s last seven games).

Further, swingman Jaylen Brown is listed as probable after having lower back spasms last week while forward Guerschon Yabusele is also listed as probable with left foot soreness. Big men Daniel Theis is listed as questionable with right foot soreness.

Celtics head coach Brad Stevens telegraphed the move following Boston’s loss to the Orlando Magic on Sunday, noting that the team’s starters may not play much — if at all — against the Wizards. However, Smart and Tatum were both injured against the Magic, so their appearance on the Celtics’ injury report — while likely to have happened regardless — is more relevant than players like Irving, Horford or Baynes.

Both Smart and Tatum’s injuries forced them out of Sunday’s contest.

The postseason begins on April 13, with the Celtics preparing to face a physical defensive team in the Indiana Pacers in the first round of the Eastern Conference Playoffs.
