The Boston Celtics join the other 29 teams around the NBA in shuttering their practice facilities for the time being as a precautionary measure against the spread of the coronavirus behind the league’s ongoing suspension of games, reports The Athletic’s Shams Charania.
The move will happen Friday, and will end access for individual players to use the facilities — group practices were banned by the league last week as part of the suspension of league activities on March 11th.
With no clear end in sight for the spread of the virus disrupting much of the world economy, the league has decided to be even more cautious, particularly given additional outbreak among players could complicate plans to return to action in limited form this summer.
That won’t happen until mid- to late June at soonest based on a best-case scenario outcome, and could very well not happen at all if events beyond the control of the NBA necessitate it.
Even still, it is very understandable that the league wants to do everything it can to safeguard even the potential of the resumption of games.
