Celtics rest seven players, fall short to Knicks 96-92

In the regular season finale before the play-in tournament kicks off this week on Tuesday, the shorthanded Boston Celtics fell to the New York Knicks. 96-92.

On top of missing Jaylen Brown after being lost for the season, the Celtics were without Jayson Tatum, Kemba Walker, Marcus Smart, Robert Williams, Tristan Thompson, and Evan Fournier on Sunday as Boston rested the seven players with their fate as the 7-seed in the play-in tournament was locked in prior to today’s game.

Despite outscoring the Knicks 27-19 in the fourth quarter and cutting their lead down to one-point, the Celtics failed to score a point in the final two minutes of the game.

Veteran Jabari Parker led the way for the Celtics this afternoon, scoring 18 points and 7 rebounds.

Tremont Waters joined Parker with a productive day off the bench, finishing with a career-high 17 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists.

The 7-seed Celtics will face the 8-seed Washington Wizards in the first round of the play-in tournament. The winner will become the the 7-seed and the loser will play the winner have the 9-10 matchup of the Indiana Pacers and Charlotte Hornets.
