Celtics recall RJ Hunter from Maine Red Claws

Prior to Thursday night’s game on the road against the Milwaukee Bucks, the Boston Celtics announced they have recalled RJ Hunter from the Main Red Claws. Boston signed Hunter on a two-way deal back in January. Since then, he’s been playing for the Red Claws in the G League.

In his 12 games for Maine, Hunter has made 11 starts, averaging 32.9 minutes per game, as well as 14.1 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.1 steals per night.

His shooting efficiency has dipped slightly, however, since re-signing with the organization that drafted him — shooting 36.1 percent from the floor and 29 percent from deep after posting 42.6 percent and 34.3 percent, respectively, in his first 22 games of the 2018-19 season while with the Orlando Magic’s Erie BayHawks.

But as Hunter told CelticsWire in February, Hunter has been resetting his game while in Maine:

I’m just trying to find rhythm right now. Just kind of have to start over and kind of find the beginning. That takes time. Other than that, just trying to look at the opportunity for real. It’s a simple game. You see guys in the G League, they (are) averaging eight and six (points per game) but they get called up. So it’s kind of about playing the right way and doing the right things.
