Celtics injury update: Timelord, Horford, Tatum, Stauskas to sit vs. Bucks; Smart listed as probable

It very much looks like the Boston Celtics are prioritizing rest over wins to finish the 2021-22 NBA regular season with news from the team that it will sit both veteran big man Al Horford (low back soreness) and All-Star forward Jayson Tatum (right patella tendinopathy) against a mostly healthy Milwaukee Bucks squad for their Thursday night matchup with the defending champs.

In addition to Tatum and Horford, starting center Robert Williams III (left knee meniscal tear) and reserve guard Nik Stauskas (right ankle sprain) will also sit out the game, with veteran point guard Marcus Smart (right ankle sprain) listed as probable to play against the Bucks in Boston’s penultimate regular-season game of the year.

Boston could secure the second seed with a win over Milwaukee, but with wear and tear plaguing several players in heavy minutes rotation and a key player already out indefinitely, this may well be the wisest approach with a deep postseason run in mind for the Celtics.
