Celtics center Enes Kanter recounts a tale of breakfast disaster

Sometimes, adjusting to the local cuisine can be a challenge for those of us who find ourselves living in a new country, as the author of this article can attest; for Boston Celtics center Enes Kanter, getting used to breakfast in the U.S. in particular presented some unexpected challenges.

It wasn’t that the Turkish big man had a problem with what people eat to start the day in the United States, but rather an incident he had getting some categories of food mixed up in a way that is both understandable and a bit nauseating to think about.

The 6-foot-11 big man made an appearance on the Snapback Sports podcast, and revealed a breakfast disaster he had while just getting used to American cuisine for the first time in an excerpt he posted to his Instagram.

“I’ll tell you a funny story, though,” began Kanter.

“So it’s the first time I came to America, right? Obviously I didn’t eat a lot of cereals in Turkey. Well, first time I came to America, you know, I poured this thing in my bowl and started eating it with the milk. And one of my American friends walked in and started laughing.”

I’m like ‘Why are you laughing?’; he said, ‘Dude, that’s not a cereal, that’s Cheez-It.’ So, I thought it was a cereal. I put milk in the Cheez-It, and started eating it,” he continued.

“I’m like, ‘Dude, that tastes disgusting. How do people eat this?!?’, and then he explained it to me,” finished Kanter.

As far as cultural faux pas go, this one was pretty minor. And as far as breakfast foods go, well — we’ll let you be the judge of that.
