Celtic 'win the race' for highly-rated Arsenal-linked Scunthorpe striker Joey Dawson

Celtic have reportedly pulled off a coup by signing highly-rated Scunthorpe striker Joey Dawson.

The 17-year-old is still waiting to make his league debut for the English League Two side but he became the club's youngest-ever player when he turned out in the EFL Cup against Derby in August 2019.

Dawson has since been linked with Arsenal by various English media outlets, but there are various reports this afternoon claiming Celtic have won the race for his signature.

Scunthorpe fan site Iron-Bru.co.uk are 'exclusively' claiming that the Hoops have snapped up the teenager and he'll move to Glasgow this summer after rejecting a long-term professional deal to stay at the Sands Venue Stadium.

Dawson is even understood to have passed a medical, with The Bhoys due to pay a nominal compensation fee to Scunthorpe if they do indeed sign him on a free transfer.

With recruitment specialist Nick Hammond having left Celtic Park last month, and the club's supporters still waiting on news regarding the imminent appointment of Eddie Howe as manager, today's reports does beg the question of who has pursued Dawson, if anyone.
