Celtic will silence cocky Rangers fans again when they are embarrassed by the champions - Hotline

The gloves came off on a Hotline which was all about fighting talk ahead of a new league campaign. With just days to go before the big Premiership reveal, the pre-season squabbling hit new heights.

Gordon Ashley Ayr, said: "This is going to be a great laugh giving these mouthy Rangers fans the same rinsing that we gave them last season and showing them who's boss. We have re-signed the two best players in Scotland and strengthened the only two areas where we needed it while they have lost their two best players. There will be no nine-point head start either."

Eddie Easson, Ballingry, said: " Hotline caller George Wilson needs to change the record. I can assure him no Celtic fan is running scared of Rangers. They lost to Sunderland before the lights went out, had a credible victory over West Ham then took a beating from Spurs. It's hardly brilliant and some of their signings haven’t had a game yet. Let’s see how they handle the bumpy, all-weather park at Livingston."

Bud Hay, Dumfries , said: "You won't hear any Rangers fans bragging about being beaten by the fourth best team in England. I am just letting them know the top team in the Premier League could not beat the champions of Scotland. Rangers can bring it on as I did not see anything we need to fear."

Jim Melrose, Edinburgh, said: "Heaven knows where these Rangers fans get their confidence from. They were the same last season before being embarrassed by the champions. If it wasn't for Celtic being all over the place at the start of the season we would have won the league by fifteen points and sealed the treble. They are also in danger of blowing four Champions League attempts in twelve months."

Drew Ferguson, Oban, said: "So Charlie Nicholas believes Rangers have strengthened but will win nothing this season and that Dundee United and Aberdeen will win the cups. So that means a stronger improved Rangers team which reached the Europa League final and won the Scottish Cup will win nothing? You couldn't make this up."

Gary Stevenson, Newtonhill, said: "Nicholas thinks Rangers will win nothing this year but maybe he has been borrowing lines from Hotline regular Ashley. Nobody's interested in their opinions and perhaps they should concentrate on their own team, whoever that may be. Gio van Bronckhorst has amassed quite a CV and needs no advice from anyone."

Daniel Robertson, Paisley, said: "It may be unsavoury to Celtic fans but it appears that the rest of the European clubs consider Rangers to be the main Scottish team. How else can you see it when you consider this current transfer window? Celtic go in for a £4 million player and they get him, Rangers go in and suddenly it's, we're dealing with a major club here, let's bump it up another couple of million. Suppose that comes with the territory when you are successful in the big boys playground."

John Bruce , emailed: "During this transfer window Rangers have shown the benefits of reaching a European final and gaining respect and recognition with top players eager to join the club. Their latest signing, Ridvan Yilmaz is one of the most coveted young full-backs in Europe and has won a league title, played in the Champions League and is already a full Turkish international at just 21-years-old. Rangers have now strengthened with quality all over the park. Rather than spending their budget on existing players, Gio's squad is looking very strong for the season ahead."

Ian McKendrick , emailed: "Why would Alfredo Morelos want to move when he's already playing for the most successful club in the world?"

Martin Leggatt, emailed: "It's no surprise that all of a sudden, Morelos wants a new deal. The reason is simple, it's because he's never been as good as either he or Rangers thought."

George Wilson, West Sussex, said: "It was the usual accurate insider information from Rangers expert Gordon Ashley who told us on Monday that Morelos was running down his Rangers contract. Van Bronckhorst said talks are at an advanced stage for Morelos to extend his new contract. One of these two guys regularly talk nonsense and is doing so again."
