Celtic warned £19million winger Raphina will take Rennes to the next level

Rennes coach Julien Stephan has fired a warning to Celtic over £19million signing Raphina.

The Ligue 1 side face Neil Lennon ’s side at Roazhon Park on Thursday in matchday one of the Europa League .

And Rennes, who reached the round of 16 before falling to Arsenal last season, have been lifted with the acquisition of Raphina from Sporting Lisbon.

The Brazilian is poised to make his debut against Brest on Saturday before facing Celtic five days later.

Stephan, who also recruited midfielder Jonas Martin from Strasbourg on deadline day, believes Raphina will take his side to the next level.

The manager said: "He is a player who can eliminate his man, break through lines and dribble superbly.

“He is also capable of making the last pass and scoring goals, winning the one-on-one.

“He compliments the characteristics of our other offensive players and can also play as a second central striker.

“The arrival of the two players will allow us to have other options and to be able to change systems during a match. We will be less predictable by our opponents."

Celtic faced Rennes in the Europa League groups eight years ago, with the Scots winning 4-2 on aggregate.
