Celtic wait on Moussa Dembele windfall as Atletico Madrid set to snub chance to sign striker

Celtic will be forced to wait on any potential windfall from Moussa Dembele 's transfer as it looks unlikely Atletico Madrid will take up their option to sign the striker.

The forward, 24, spent the second-half of last season on-loan in the Spanish capital from Lyon and made seven appearances for Diego Simeone's side as they beat Real Madrid and Barcelona to the La Liga title.

According to Football Espana, the newly-crowned Spanish champions have first refusal on signing Dembele on a permanent basis for a fee of €33.5million, the equivalent to just shy of £29million.

But it seems the Frenchman's displays haven't done enough to persuade the Atletico hierarchy that he's worth such an outlay, with Lyon looking for a profit on the £20million paid to Celtic for Dembele back in 2018.

It now remains to be seen wether or not Dembele will return to France and see out the final two years of his contract with Lyon, or seek a move elsewhere, with West Ham credited with an interest in his services.

Celtic will be keeping a watchful eye over events with the Parkhead side due a significant sell-on percentage of any transfer fee Lyon recoup for the ex-Fulham hitman.
