Celtic wait for clarity as Moi Elyounoussi and Kristoffer Ajer isolation order creates Hibs doubt

Celtic face another Covid-19 sweat as Kristoffer Ajer and Mohamed Elyounoussi may have to self-isolate for 10 days.

And the Norway duo, who flew back to Scotland last night, could miss Celtic’s clash at Hibs on Saturday.

Their national team were ordered not to travel to Romania over the weekend after defender Omar Elabdellaoui tested positive last week. Norway’s players and staff have been told to self-isolate for 10 days and if that holds then Ajer and Elyounoussi will miss the Hibs game.

Celtic are waiting to find out the full details in another Covid nightmare for the champions.

They lost Ryan Christie, Odsonne Edouard and Israeli pair Nir Bitton and Hatem Abd Elhamed who all had to self-isolate on return from international trips last month.

Meanwhile Norway are furious about their government’s hardline stance. Lars Lagerback’s squad were already on the plane for Bucharest when they were stopped from travelling.

The Norwegian Football Federation are now in the process of finding a new squad for their midweek clash with Austria.

Norway’s Martin Odegaard, ex-Celt Stefan Johansen and Joshua King put out a joint statement.

It read: “We are very disappointed the authorities are forcing us to stay home.

“All the other 54 UEFA nations are playing international matches this week except Norway. This is detrimental to the national team’s ambitions in the short and long term.”
