Celtic vs Rangers to get green light by Nicola Sturgeon after clubs show united front for derby day

Celtic vs Rangers is set to be given the green light by Nicola Sturgeon after both clubs reinforced the 'stay at home' message to fans.

The Old Firm derby was at risk after thousands of Light Blues supporters lined the streets of Glasgow after their Premiership title win.

The First Minister criticised the Ibrox club for their lack of leadership as she reviewed whether it would be safe for derby day to go ahead.

But the Daily Record are reporting the clash will be approved after clubs sent repeated reminders to their fanbase to stay home amid the ongoing lockdown.

Celtic and Rangers met with the Scottish Government officials earlier in the week as they devised a plan for the match to go ahead safely.

Scott Brown and interim boss John Kennedy then attended a second meeting with national clinical director Jason Leitch for further discussions.

Players and managers of both clubs have also been reinforcing the 'stay at home' message, asking fans to stay away from Parkhead on Sunday afternoon.

Holyrood will make an official announcement later in the week, but early signs suggest it will be good news for the big two in Glasgow.
