This afternoon’s showdown will see Martin O’Neill take charge of his first Old Firm game for 20 years, having recently been named as the surprise new interim Celtic boss along with former striker Shaun Maloney following the resignation of Brendan Rodgers.
O’Neill returned to the dugout after six years away, having most recently managed at Nottingham Forest back in 2019.
Since then, the former Leicester and Aston Villa boss has worked as a television pundit for the BBC and ITV.
Now, he is back in football management at a club he knows well, and he made a winning return at Celtic Park, overseeing a 4-0 win over Falkirk in midweek.
Rodgers left Celtic for the second time after a public fall-out with the club’s hierarchy, and with his side well adrift of shock leaders Hearts at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

Rangers are also under new management, with Danny Rohl poised for his first taste of the Old Firm occasion after being appointed to replace the unpopular Russell Martin last month following talks with Steven Gerrard and Kevin Muscat.
The former Sheffield Wednesday coach had quickly lifted them up to third in the Premiership table before Saturday’s action, after back-to-back wins for the first time this term over Kilmarnock and Hibernian that followed a dreadful Europa League loss to Brann.
Date, kick-off time and venue
Celtic vs Rangers is scheduled for a 2pm GMT kick-off today on Sunday November 2, 2025.

Celtic vs Rangers team news
Cameron Carter-Vickers and Jota are Celtic’s two long-term injury absentees, with the former needing surgery for an Achilles issue, while Jota is rehabbing after anterior cruciate ligament damage. Alistair Johnson suffered a setback with his hamstring recovery against Sturm Graz, and is also set to miss out.
Striker Kelechi Iheanacho is also sidelined, though Kieran Tierney could be back. If he isn’t, then left-back understudy Marcelo Sarrachi should be ready to start after a knock.
As for Rangers, Dujon Sterling and Rabbi Matondo are the definite absentees, along with Kieran Dowell and the suspended Connor Barron.
Otherwise, they are at full capacity, with Danilo’s early withdrawal against Hibs precautionary to manage his minutes, according to Rohl.
Celtic vs Rangers prediction
Both sides are under new management, although there is still some uncertainty bubbling around Celtic with O’Neill only a temporary solution, and he admitted that that was the case in his unveiling, saying that he was merely “keeping the seat warm” for a long-term Rodgers replacement.
Rohl has brought some calm to a Rangers side that seemed almost irreparable after the Martin debacle, but there is an sense of fairytale about O’Neill’s return to Glasgow.
That momentum has seemed to buoy the Bhoys, who thrashed Falkirk in the Northern Irishman’s first game in charge, and they could harness that feel-good factor again to come out on top at Hampden.
Celtic to win, 2-1.

Head to head (h2h) history and results
Martin and Rodgers were in charge when these two sides played out a bore draw in the Premiership at Ibrox in August amid a backdrop of fan anger on both sides.
Few will forget their meeting in the final of this competition last season, when Celtic held their nerve 5-4 in a penalty shootout after a thrilling 3-3 draw at Hampden.
