Celtic's title-clinching win over Heart of Midlothian brought in over 1 million viewers as it broke season records.

The Parkhead clash brought plenty of drama as the hosts came from behind to rob Hearts of the draw or victory they needed to take the title themselves despite only being top for minutes.

Controversy followed as Celtic fans stormed the pitch in celebration after Callum Osmand's stoppage time clincher with Hearts forced to leave the stadium in full kits due to safety concerns.

The drama attracted the highest viewing figures of the SPFL season with almost 1.4m people tuning in to Sky Sports' coverage.

A Sky Sports spokesperson said: “Celtic v Hearts on Saturday averaged an in-home only audience of 1.09 million and peaked at 1.37 million viewers, making it the highest SPFL audience of the season.”

In a statement released following the match, an SPFL spokesperson said: “Yesterday’s match showed off the very best of the Scottish game and the drama and excitement that it is rightly famed for.

“The eyes of the world were on Glasgow and the climax of the William Hill Premiership, with millions of viewers watching the match on Sky Sports and across the globe.

“However, we utterly condemn the scenes which saw a number of Celtic supporters encroach onto the field of play. We await the report.”
