Celtic v Rangers fixture should be pushed back says Neil Lennon

Neil Lennon believes pushing the season's first Old Firm derby back would be the popular approach.

At present, the Premiership season is scheduled to return on August 1st behind closed doors, but the Celtic Park boss is keen on the league's most high-profile fixture being played in front of crowds.

Celtic enter the new season as favourites to lift what would be their tenth successive title.

As quoted in Record Sport, Lennon said: "Should the first Old Firm game be pushed back? I think that’s what everyone would want.

“Everyone associated with the game would want it and so would the clubs. I’m sure the TV companies would want it as well.”

Asked if Rangers potentially playing two home derbies in front of crowds with Celtic just playing one would give Steven Gerrard's side an advantage, Lennon said: “I don’t know. If that’s the way it has to be, so be it.

“But I do think the authorities will look at it and try to push it back.

“It would give us more of a chance of getting punters back to the games.”
