Celtic v Hamilton: Lee Hodson aims to continue impressive defensive record

Lee Hodson is determined to keep working hard to maintain Hamilton Accies’ impressive defensive record.

Accies have kept a remarkable three clean sheets in their last four games as they’ve picked up five points in their quest to avoid relegation.

Hodson has been an integral part of that defensive unit and insists that being solid at the back provides a platform for Hamilton to pick up valuable points.

He said: “Obviously, we’ve been working hard in training on how we want to play and our shape. We know if we can keep a clean sheet then we will get opportunities in games to score goals.

“If we can keep the ball out the back of the net then we believe we can create chances and that gives us the best possible chance to win games.

“We’ve kept a few clean sheets over the last few weeks which is nice but we need to carry and build on that to become more consistent.”

After the humiliating 8-0 defeat against Rangers at Ibrox, manager Brian Rice made some inspired tactical tweaks including moving Hakeem ODoffin into a midfield role.

Aaron Martin and Brian Easton have established themselves as key players and Hodson admits they work hard on their defensive shape in training.

“We’ve been working really hard on it which is massive. The manager wants us to play a certain way and it’s shown to be effective over the last few weeks.

“We’ve got some good results and kept some clean sheets. As long as we keep working on how we want to play then we know we can pick up results.”

Hodson is improving from an attacking perspective and scored the opening goal in the 3-0 Lanarkshire derby win over Motherwell.

The right-wing back is afforded a licence to get forward and Hodson is determined to improve forward so he can benefit the team.

He said: “I’d like to add more goals to my game if I can. Get more shots, more crosses in and that’s something that I’ve been working on in training.

"I’m constantly analysing my game and working hard to improve because you can never be too old to improve.

“I’m always learning but the main thing is to do the best for the badge, team and supporters. The main thing is getting results and points so that we can stay in the league.”
