Celtic urged to make Fraser Forster bid by former England international stopper

Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson has urged Fraser Forster to join Celtic from Southampton in a bid to re-energise his career.

The 32-year-old rejoined the Parkhead side on loan last season to help Neil Lennon's men seal a ninth successive title in a row alongside a match-winning performance in the Betfred Cup final victory over Rangers.

Celtic reportedly made moves to bring him back to the club during the summer, but Ralph Hasenhuttl was reluctant to allow him to leave St Mary's.

The Hoops instead signed Vasilis Barkas from AEK Athens, but questions have been raised over the quality of the Greek international's performances.

Forster meanwhile is yet to make an appearance this season after acting as deputy to Alex McCarthy on England's south coast.

The Hexham-born keeper played more than 230 times for the Parkhead outfit over one permanent and three loan spells.

And ex-Tottenham and Leeds stopper Robinson has encouraged the Glasgow club to make another move for the towering stopper in a bid to help claw back the gap to rivals Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

“I do not know if Forster could save their season but his arrival would go a long way. It would be a big boost," he told Football Insider

“Celtic were massively disappointed that he did not stay. He went back to Southampton but he has not got a game so I think it would be in everyone’s interests that he moved back to Scotland."

He added: “If it was me, I would want to go. He did amazing things there last season and I think he will want to play.”
