Celtic trolled for Dubai trip as Russian giants take aim over training camp controversy

Spartak Moscow have aimed a cheeky dig at Celtic after their training trip to Dubai, as they themselves jetted out to the Middle East for some warm weather training of their own.

The Premiership champions obtained permission in November to carry out their traditional winter training camp but came under fire for the decision to travel.

It came after defeat to Rangers in the second Old Firm derby of the season days before the country entered into a period of strict lockdown.

Upon their return defender Christopher Jullien tested positive for Covid-19 ahead of the rearranged clash with Hibs.

And after contact tracing a further 13 players plus manager Neil Lennon and assistant manager John Kennedy were told to self-isolate.

Celtic's misery was compounded when Kevin Nisbet's late equaliser earned Hibs a point on Monday night and left Rangers 21 points clear.

Most of Europe's top clubs have opted to stay home over the winter break but Spartak Moscow have opted to get some warm weather training in during Russia's lengthy winter break.

They won't face a competitive fixture until the end of February and have also opted to jet out to Dubai.

But Spartak couldn't resist a cheeky dig at Celtic as they wrote on Twitter: "We're in Dubai, any tips @CelticFC?".

Inevitably the post attracted a flurry of responses including "turn around and go home", "take any long-term injured players" and "sign Shane Duffy".
