Celtic travel confusion as Motherwell seek clarity on Covid travel guidelines

Motherwell have joined a number of clubs seeking guidance on changing Covid restrictions after turning up to their away match at Celtic separately.

A convoy of vehicles from Fir Park brought each player and staff member individually as they suffered a 1-0 loss to the Hoops, despite a spirited display.

Tom Rogic's goal on the stroke of half-time was enough to seal a narrow home win in the Premiership.

SPFL sides were handed new guidelines on late Friday afternoon which stated that an entire travelling party aboard buses would be sent into isolation if there was even one positive test.

But confusion reigns after national clinical director Jason Leitch said on national radio this weekend that players and staff will avoid quarantine if they tested negative.

Clubs want clarification and with Motherwell set to journey up to Ross County four days after Christmas - a 372-mile trip there and back - more information is needed.

'Well boss Graham Alexander said: "We had to turn up in our cars.

"We only got the information on Saturday night so we had to play it safe and come in our cars, which isn't ideal, but there's a lot of things that have to change when rules are put in place and the pandemic is going on.

"We will try and work the best way we can but I have seen other managers talking about clarity and hopefully we have because we have a couple of long trips coming up.

"I don't fancy going up in cars to Ross County on the 29th. Every staff member, every player all came up separately in their cars."
