Celtic transfer update as Neil Lennon eyes new arrivals and the state of play with Scott Bain

Celtic are facing a goalkeeper sweat with Scott Bain struggling with a hand injury.

The Hoops No.1 is set to miss the Betfred Cup last 16 clash with Dunfermline at Celtic Park and is rated as a doubt for next week’s Europa League playoff showdown with AIK Stockholm.

Craig Gordon was already on standby to return to the side for the cup tie but Celtic are hoping Bain’s absence won’t force Neil Lennon to add another shot stopper.

Record Sport understands reports the Scotland international is set to miss two months are wide of the mark.

The Hoops boss is looking to strengthen his squad on the back of Tuesday’s calamitous Champions League exit against Cluj.

Lennon wants cover in both full back positions with Rosenberg’s Birger Meling among a long list of potential targets.

Celts have also been linked with a loan move for Bournemouth’s Jordan Ibe.

The winger came close to a £15m exit before the English window closed but the former Liverpool youngster turned down a move to Derby County.

Newcastle United were also interested but Ibe was understood not to be keen on a switch to the north east.

Celtic are focusing on permanent deals – with an attacking midfielder and striker on the wishlist – but will consider quality loan deals.

Nigerian international Ibe has struggled to get in to Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth side and was an unused sub in Saturday’s 1-1 Premier League opening draw with Sheffield United.

But Howe is understood to be reluctant to allow the 23-year-old to depart having failed to land cover in the wide positions.
