Celtic transfer update as Neil Lennon delivers car park message

Neil Lennon has warned Celtic fans to hold fire on the deadline day car park welcoming committee – as he’s not fussed about a late rush in the January sales.

The Hoops boss admitted he’d still love to add a couple of new faces before the window shuts on Friday.

But he would be equally content to stick with the squad he has at his disposal and doesn’t expect to see any super stars rolling up for fans to salute in front of Parkhead.

Celtic have landed the likes of Craig Bellamy, Robbie Keane and Roy Keane in previous January blockbuster deals but Lennon is cool on talk of another shock move this time around.

He said: “You have to keep calm. You have to not get yourself into a tizzy and panic and take a step away and have a look and see what’s required.

“Fans want the marquee signing in the car park but sometimes that’s not
realistic. We’d all love that. But sometimes it can go the other way.

“It can upset the dynamic in the dressing room and that’s something we are mindful of.

“Its harder to do that kind of signing now.

“The way the money is elsewhere it’s very difficult.

“We’re working away but if we don’t bring anyone else in then I’ll be happy with what we have.

“The squad has good depth and quality.”

Lennon admitted he’s not had to panic buy as his side is in good shape, with key men such as Mohamed Elyounoussi and Hatem Abd Elhamed on the way back from injury, while Jeremie Frimpong is awaiting word from a specialist on his knock.

He said: “This window has been quieter.

“You’re always hoping that anyone who comes in hits the ground running and you want to freshen the place up but you also want to move players out who are unhappy because they haven’t been featuring.

“It helps that we had a good window last summer. I can’t guarantee we’ll do any more business this month. Sometimes, towards the end of a window, players become available that you wouldn’t have expected so we’ll see.”

Lennon denied a move from Monaco for Odsonne Edouard and warned any suitors they’d be wasting their time.

He said: “He won’t be going anywhere, there is no chance of that. He is too good.”

Lennon will work in the
background on transfers but his focus is on the hectic schedule with St Johnstone up tonight.

He said: “We have three away from home now in the league so it’s vital we don’t get caught up with all the distractions.

“Tommy Wright’s done a magnificent job there. I expect a tough game.”
