Celtic transfer plans 'well underway' with Ange Postecoglou eyeing up early January business

Ange Postecoglou has revealed Celtic's January transfer business is 'well underway' as he looks to do his winter window deals early once again.

The Hoops gaffer moved quickly last year to secure Japanese trio Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate and Yosuke Ideguchi and he admits he will look to do something similar this time around as he bids to retain the Premiership crown he won from Rangers last season.

The Japanese and Asian markets are ones the Aussie boss is very familiar with and he believes there is still value out there for the right type or players who would fit into his system and way of working but Mark Lawwell is now in at the Scottish champions and the recruitment net has been cast worldwide in search for exactly what the Celtic gaffer is after player wise.

Alexandro Bernabei arrived from Argentina in the summer, with Postecoglou admitting South America is another area the Hoops are keeping tabs on in their search. Key factors for the 57-year-old include type of character and and how the players conduct themselves.

Speaking about the next transfer window, he said: "We are well underway with our planning for January.

“It was really beneficial for us last year to do our business early. That helped us in the back half of the season. I think we’ll have to do something similar this January.

“Our strategy is already in place and hopefully it all comes together.

“We are looking everywhere in our recruitment.

“Mark Lawwell is in the building now and the reason I brought him in is he knows what I am looking for.

“The brief is to scour the world for that. The Japanese and Asian market is one I am really familiar with.

“I still think there is value there for players and I know how they’d fit into what we do.

“But we signed Alexandro Bernabei from Argentina, so South America is also an area we are looking at.

"With Mark now working and knowing how we do things, we know exactly what we are looking for.

“There are some parameters financially that we have to work with, but the key criteria is the kind of characters they are and how they conduct themselves.

“Whether they are from Europe, Asia, South America or Africa, we factor that into any player we bring in.”
