Celtic transfer news as Jozo Simunovic 'targeted' by Southampton and Bundesliga duo

Former Celtic defender Jozo Simunovic has been targeted by Southampton, according to a report.

The Croatian centre-half has been without a club after he was released by Neil Lennon's side last summer.

And according to Goal Germany, he is close to finding a new employer with the Premier League outfit interested in making him an offer.

The Saints are looking for defensive reinforcements after a 9-0 defeat to Manchester United and shipping three goals to struggling Newcastle.

But they could face some competition for Simunovic's signature as Bundesliga pair Stuttgart and Augsburg are also keen on acquiring the 26-year-old.

Simunovic has had moves to Turkish duo Trabzonspor and Goztepe and Rijeka, in his native Croatia, fall through due to doubts over his fitness.

The centre-back had to deal with a long-standing knee injury during his spell at Celtic, but it seems he could be set to make a return to football for the second half of the season.
