Celtic transfer news as James McCarthy and Tom Ince emerge as 'targets'

Celtic are pursuing midfielders James McCarthy and Tom Ince, according to reports.

The Parkhead side are keen to bring in reinforcements before the end of the window as they prepare for the departures of first team stars in the summer.

McCarthy is a player that has been tipped to join Celtic on several occasions after the club turned him down as a youngster, and the lifelong fan is apparently on their radar once again.

The Irishman came through the ranks at Hamilton before enjoying a successful career in England with Wigan, Everton and now Crystal Palace.

But with the playmaker's contract with Roy Hodgson's side set to run out in the summer, Celtic are targeting him on a pre-contract deal, reports the Daily Mail.

They will face stiff competition for his signature, however, with Burnley, West Ham, Brighton, West Brom and Championship promotion chasers Bournemouth credited with interest.

Celtic have also been linked with a move for Stoke winger Ince as the 28-year-old faces a battle for regular first team football following the arrival of Alfie Doughty from Charlton, claims Football League World.

Turkish side Gotzepe are also interested in the Englishman who has struggled since his move to the Potters for £10million two seasons ago.
