Celtic transfer news as French media link Hoops with ex-AC Milan star Mbaye Niang

Celtic are being linked with a move for pacy Rennes striker Mbaye Niang.

The 26-year-old forward was once tipped for big things after securing a move to AC Milan as a 17-year-old back in 2012 but, in six years at the San Siro, Niang failed to live up to his early promise and was sent on-loan to four different clubs.

The jet-heeled Senegal international eventually arrived at Rennes in the summer of 2019, and initially started very brightly for the Ligue 1 club, scoring 11 goals in 35 league appearances in his debut campaign.

But his form dipped once again and Niang spent the second-half of last season on-loan in Saudi Arabian football with Al-Ahli - where he failed to find the net in five league appearances.

However, it seems he could be interested in resurrecting his career in the Scottish Premiership, with French media outlet Foot Mercato reporting that Ange Postecoglou 's side are interested in bringing Niang to Glasgow.

Niang still has two years remaining on his Rennes contract, and has already been linked with Porto this summer, with his nomadic career looking likely to continue at what would be his ninth club in as many years.

With Odsonne Edouard entering the final 12 months of his deal at Celtic Park, and Leigh Griffiths' future seemingly shrouded in uncertainty, you can understand Postecoglou's interest in adding more firepower to his squad, despite the impending arrival of Japanese front man Kyogo Furuhashi.
