Celtic are chasing deals for both Brandon Soppy and Carl Starfelt.
Ange Postecoglou ’s need for new recruits is intensifying by the day with Celtic ’s key Champions League qualifier against FC Midtjylland next week and the Premiership kick-off against Hearts just over a fortnight away,
£4million-rated Soppy has become a priority and Rennes could be open to a cut-price deal with the battacking full-back in the final year of his contract.
And the Hoops haven’t given up hope of landing Swedish international Carl Starfelt either.
They had been confident of landing the centre back for a similar price, although now club Rubin Kazan are after more.
It’s understood this is due to the Russian outfit owing Starfelt’s previous club - IFK Goteborg - a substantial percentage of any fee.
The 26-year-old played half of Rubin’s pre-season friendly on Saturday but Celtic will move on to other targets should talks not progress quicker than they have been.
That could see a move for Ben Davies resurrected. Celtic thought they had their man in January only for Liverpool to swoop in and seal a shock switch.
However, with the centre back crisis now eased at Anfield, Davies is unlikely to feature much at all under Jurgen Klopp and a loan move to Parkhead could now appeal.
Tottenham’s Cameron Carter-Vickers is another potential option while the club haven’t completely given up on getting Mario Vuskovic from Hajduk Split.
A resolution to Kritoffer Ajer’s situation is also being sought after a staggered £15million Brentford bid was K’d at the weekend, with Newcastle and Norwich thought to be looking elsewhere with Ajer’s asking price proving too rich for them.
