Celtic transfer miss as Aaron Hickey reveals why he rejected multiple Hoops offers in favour of Bologna

Aaron Hickey reveals he turned down multiple Celtic offers in favour of a switch to Bologna.

The youngster joined the Serie A side from Hearts as he jetted off to Italy on Wednesday.

The left-back had interest from Bayern Munich and Neil Lennon's side, but opted to sign with the Italians.

As a Celtic fan and former academy graduate, Hickey says the proposition of a move back to Parkhead was appealing, but he felt Bolgona was the best move for his career.

He said: "Celtic offered me a contract a few times.

“I’m a Celtic fan and much as that was appealing I just don’t feel as if football-wise that was the right decision for me at this stage.

“We had a massive decision to make out of the clubs that were interested.

“I think I have definitely made the right decision for me and my future.

“It’s really exciting to be going over to Italy and you can’t lose sight of the fact that Bologna are a massive club as well, in Serie A.

“It’s a club that has a nice family feel to it.

“I went over for a look at the stadium and facilities and thought, ‘yeah, this feels really good.’

“Everybody was really friendly and the manager Sinisa Mihajlovic was nice. He really sold the club to me. The club had a real family feel to it.

“The supporters and the media have been good to me as well, so it feels like the right choice.”
