Celtic transfer latest as Zenit St Petersburg make Kristoffer Ajer decision

The clock is ticking on Celtic sealing the three deals Neil Lennon is targeting.

The manager revealed he hoped to bring a trio of new players with him to Sweden in order for them to get to know the rest of his squad before Sunday’s pivotal clash with Rangers.

But it’s not only incomings with which Lennon has to contend. There is also interest in a number of his own players, although he may well have been pleased with the latest piece of news to come out of Russia.

Kristoffer Ajer's reputation continues to grow with every passing week and Zenit St Petersburg are the latest club to be credited with an interest.

However, Hoops fans should fear not as the Norwegian's price tag has reportedly put Zenit off following some tentative contact between the clubs, according to Championat.

It follows reported interest from the Russians in James Forrest and, earlier, Tom Rogic.

Zenit were linked with a £12million move for Forrest amid claims they were prepared to offer the winger £70,000-a-week.

However, that interest and the earlier reports regarding Rogic do not appear to have been followed up.

The player has previously claimed both the Hoops and Manchester City were chasing his signature but that has never been confirmed.

The Universidad Católica now looks set to to join the Portuguese giants, according to reports in South America.

Left-back, meanwhile, remains a priority for Lennon as he searches another option to compete with Boli Bolingoli.

A move for Kilmarnock's Greg Taylor has hit the buffers, though.

Killie are holding out for £3million for the Scotland international but Record Sport revealed earlier on Tuesday that Celtic are reluctant to go that high.

Rosenborg's Birger Meling is another option but any move for him could depend on the outcome of the Norwegians' Champions League qualifying playoff.

The Eliteserien side trail 2-0 from the first leg, with a transfer for Meling more likely if the club fail to reach the group stage.
