Celtic transfer latest as Neil Lennon responds to Freddie Woodman link and provides right back update

Neil Lennon has dismissed reports linking Celtic with Newcastle keeper Freddie Woodman.

And the Parkhead boss admits he's been dealt a blow in his search for an unnamed right-back.

Woodman, a former Aberdeen loanee, is believed to be seeking an exit from St James' Park following a contract dispute with the club.

He won't be arriving at Celtic this summer but Lennon does still want more cover in defence

However, manager is currently reassessing his options following a setback.

He said: "That has stalled, so we may have to look elsewhere.”

But the Irishman believes new faces could be in before the big kick off against St Johnstone on Saturday.

He said: “We will discuss that when we get back on Wednesday, it would be great if we could.

“And we will try and get one or two in before the next tie if we qualify, which we should do, for next week.”

Meanwhile, Lennon shrugged off Rangers loan winger Sheyi Ojo’s claims he’s joined the best team in the league.

He said: “I don’t know what it’s based on, but he is entitled to his opinion. It just washes over us. We are here to play in the Champions League.

“I don’t think our players have to justify themselves in any way, shape or form. To be fair to them, over the last few years they’ve done that very well.”
