Celtic transfer latest as Gyrano Kerk urged to take 'next step' by impressed Ajax boss

Ajax boss Erik ten Hag is certain in-demand Gyrano Kerk is ready for the next stage in his career.

The Utrecht speedster was reportedly subject of a bid from Celtic in January and a clutch of clubs have been circling around the 24-year-old winger since.

The Premiership champions were denied in the previous window as Kerk remained in the Eredivisie but now his ex-boss believes the time is now for his former star pupil to make a move.

Ten Hag said: “He can certainly take another step.

“His way of playing would fit well in England. It is only difficult to estimate whether the step up from the Eredivisie to the Premier League is too big

“I think he would do even better in Germany. Much more counter-attacking football is played there.

“That is perfect for him. He is very dangerous in the larger spaces.”

The favourable review from the Ajax tactical mastermind comes after Kerk's agent suggested a host of Champions League big hitters were eyeing his services.

The player's agent Richinel Bryson, said: "Movement in the transfer market has been held up because of the coronavirus crisis, but it’s back now.

"I have been in plenty of Zoom conversations with big foreign clubs. Gyrano has proved he’s ready for the next step, although it’s not a foregone conclusion that he will leave. But he is very ambitious.

"He is 24 years old and has had a very strong season."

Meanwhile, Hoops boss Neil Lennon is confident he’ll be given the funds to tool up for a potentially historic campaign.

He said: “The market is open and we have seen some big names and big money being bandied around already.

“It’ll be interesting to see how it settles down. We’re very wary that there may be interest in some of our players and that’s something we will have to deal with as we go along.

“But we will look to add to the squad. We’ve had Mo Elyounoussi in the building for a few weeks.

“Barkas is the first real new addition to the squad so we will be looking to add to that as we go along.

“We’ve been patient and it’s been difficult but I don’t think it’s been any more difficult than any other transfer window.”
