Celtic transfer latest as Billel Omrani is 'set to sign' for £3m as club eye rising Birmingham City star

Celtic are working frantically to land the handful of signings Neil Lennon desperately wants to secure.

The manager revealed at the weekend he still hopes to bring in three new players before Monday’s deadline.

Record Sport revealed Leicester forward Fousseni Diabate is interesting Celtic while another left-back remains a priority.

Reports in Romania emerged on Thursday morning the Scottish champions have lodged a £3million bid for Cluj striker Billel Omrani.

The 26-year-old has another year left on his deal with the club that knocked out Celtic at the third qualifying round stage of the Champions League.

Frenchman Omrani joined Cluj from Marseille two years ago and can operate on either flank as well as through the middle.

Reports have claimed he will sign for Celtic before the end of the week. Should they be true, it would likely kill off interest in Diabate given Omrani’s versatility.

He twice netted in Cluj’s 4-3 win at Celtic Park and impressed in both legs.

Omrani also has more experience than Diabate, with the Foxes youngster failing to break into Brendan Rodgers’ first team.

However, when news of a potential move to Celtic first emerged 10 days ago, the Omrani link was denied by Celtic sources.

As for the void at left-back, both Birger Meling and Greg Taylor remain options.

Celtic have submitted an offer for the Scotland cap but Kilmarnock want £3m. Sunderland also bid for Taylor but their £750,000 attempt was rejected.

Both clubs are likely to hold further talks with Kilmarnock to see if they can strike a deal. Levante left-back Antonio Luna is another name to have emerged on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the club are continuing to sign promising young players. It has been reported Celtic are lining up a deal for Birmingham City defender Mitchell Roberts.

The 18-year-old is also wanted by Manchester City but Celtic have the edge due to the transfer window remaining open until September 2.

Roberts caught the eye of Man City during a friendly at the Etihad Campus in the summer but Celtic have been watching him while playing for the development team at St Andrews, according to  the Sun.

He only has a contract until next summer and Birmingham are willing to sell at the right price.

The centre back suffered a serious knee injury during his first season full time but has battled back to make a name for himself at the club.
