Celtic transfer departure predicted as former Hoops star names player he thinks will leave soon

Former Celtic defender Mark Wilson has tipped James McCarthy to complete a move away from his former side this summer.

The 31-year-old midfielder has started just six times since putting pen to paper on a four-year deal at Parkhead last summer. He previously had been at Hamilton, Wigan, Everton and Crystal Palace, with boss Ange Postecoglou leaving him out of Celtic's 2-0 Premiership win against Aberdeen on Sunday.

McCarthy would be entitled to see out his deal in green and white according to Wilson, but he tells Clyde 1 it might be time for him to go: "I think it's time for James McCarthy to move on. I think the ball is probably on James McCarthy's court. He's been given a four-year deal. I hate when clubs are done with people, they try to move them on unfairly. Celtic gave him a four-year deal and he has every right to sit there if he wants.

"But you wonder, he's still young enough to go out and play at a good level. You would think he would have the appetite to go and experience something elsewhere because it's never nice just sitting on the bench.

"Even if you are part of a winning team and part of a great club like Celtic where everything is rosy, if you are sitting on the bench and then coming off it and when the stadium is empty, you're doing runs with the fitness coach.

"It's a horrible place to be in. Sooner or later you need to make a decision if this is for you. Are you going to sit there for another three years? I can't ever see him playing in a big game where Ange Postecoglou names his strongest team."
