Celtic transfer call labelled 'unbelievable' as 'big error' on John McGinn still hurts Hoops hero

John Hartson still can't believe that he hasn't got to witness John McGinn in a Celtic shirt.

The former Parkhead striker is a big fan of the Aston Villa captain and midfielder, who moved to the Villans in 2018 from Hibs. It was only after the Hoops failed to get a deal over the line while Brendan Rodgers was manager, McGinn since going on to book himself a place in the Scotland national team's Hall of Fame after clinching 50 caps.

Appearing on Go Radio with Stephen McGinn, brother of John, Hartson is still lamenting that transfer collapse with the star now holding a multi-million valuation. He can't quite fathom how a deal was not completed, saying: "I still can't believe it, I cannot believe we did not get John McGinn over the line. So I am led to believe, Celtic wouldn't cough up whatever it was. What is John McGinn worth now, £50 million?

"One of the best midfielders in the Premier League. You couldn't really put a price on it now. Unbelievable. That was a big error.

"I am not criticising whoever was in charge of Celtic at the time. John McGinn, big Celtic fan as well. How on earth we never got him to Celtic, I will never know."

The Parkhead club had lowball offers for McGinn rejected by Hibs but when they did eventually meet the £3 million valuation, the midfielder had already decided on Aston Villa.
