Celtic 'to sign David Turnbull' with £3m deal expected to be finalised this week

David Turnbull looks set to finally complete his move to Celtic.

The 21-year-old was on the verge of joining Neil Lennon's side in June 2019, but the deal fell through due to a knee problem that emerged in his medical.

A four-year deal was agreed between the player and the club last summer, but he instead remained at Motherwell and was sidelined until February.

The Scottish Sun report that Turnbull will become a Celtic player this week, with the champions paying £3m for his services.

The midfielder, who has scored 16 goals in 41 games for Motherwell, signed a contract extension with the Fir Park side in March 2020 that ties him to the club until 2022.

Celtic's most recent signing Albian Ajeti scored his first goal for the club in Saturday's 1-0 Premiership win over Dundee United at Tannadice, and Lennon expects big things from the striker.

He said: "We get Albi on and he's not fully fit as you can see, but it gives us another attacking option and gives us a great winner and that will do him the world of good. A great day's work.

"I think it's a big goal for him and a big goal for us so already he has made a big contribution and once we see him fully fit, we will see the best of him."
