Celtic to hold 'period of silence' for Irish explosion victims before kick-off at tonight's game

Celtic have announced that they will host a period of silence before tonight's game in memory of the victims who sadly lost their lives following an explosion at a petrol station in Ireland.

The club have also said that players will wear black armbands throughout the game as a mark of respect, following the horrific petrol station explosion in Creeslough, a village in County Donegal, on Friday afternoon.

Celtic have asked fans to consider donating to a fund set up to aid those who have been bereaved, injured or made homeless by the explosion.

The statement said: "A period of silence will be held prior to the #CelticRBLeipzig kick-off tomorrow and the players will wear black armbands during the game, in memory of the 10 people who tragically lost their lives in Creeslough, County Donegal on Friday. YNWA."

The team is set to play RB Leipzig at Parkhead tonight (October 11), with the game kicking off at 8pm.

Glasgow Live previously reported that a Glaswegian Celtic fan, Martin McGill, was one of the 10 killed, after moving to the area a few years ago to care for his parents.
